D-Link targets business wireless users
Posted: 18 May 2006
D-Link, the leading provider of networking and communication solutions to the consumer, SMB and enterprise markets, has introduced another model in its range of wireless access points aimed at the business market.
The D-Link AirPremier DWL-8200AP Managed Dualband Access Point provides a flexible and powerful wireless network with high-level accessibility by communicating simultaneously on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies, while supporting 802.11b/g and 802.11a bi-directionally.
The DWL-8200AP delivers excellent wireless performance with maximum flexibility, enabling two parallel networks to be set up for organisations that want to ensure optimum accessibility and scalability. With its onboard SuperG function engaged, it is possible to achieve even greater performance of up to 108Mbps in 802.11g mode.
“Robustly designed in a durable plenum metal chassis with lockable consoles, the DWL-8200AP has been specifically developed to meet companies' needs for secure and centrally managed wireless networks,” said Maurice Famularo D-Link Marketing Director, Australia & New Zealand.
“Capable of advanced user segmentation with double LAN ports for main and guest networks, Multiple SSID and up to 16 x 802.1Q VLAN, this product is another example of D-Link’s technical superiority in solutions for the SME environment,” added Famularo.
The DWL-8200AP can be configured in any one of three modes: as a normal access point, point-to-point bridge (PtP) and point-to-multipoint bridge (PtMP), which means for instance that an 11a band can be set up as an access point while, at the same time, the 11g band is used for bridging. The access point also has a built-in 802.3af Power over Ethernet connection, enabling these products to be installed in places within the business environment where a power outlet is not readily available.
The DWL-8200AP boasts an extremely high level of security and supports encryption for WPA/WPA2-Enterprise and WPA/WPA2-Personal, 802.1x and AES encryption and user segmentation for optimum protection. WPA2 means that it is also ready for 802.11i, which is a future standard for even greater security.
Network managers can administer all the properties and settings of the DWL-8200AP via the web-based configuration interface or via Telnet. For advanced administration and monitoring, D-Link's powerful AP Manager can also be used to administer a wireless LAN in a corporate environment. The DWL-8200AP is also equipped with support for D-View SNMP; an administration module for D-Link's administration software D-View. D-View is used to administer and monitor large networks centrally via SNMP.
Price and Availability
The DWL-8200AP is now available and priced at AUD$620.00 RRP inc GST / NZ$735.00 RRP inc GST.
This price includes the AP Manager administration tool and lockable consoles for theft-proof wall mounting.
