Revolutionary coating to double life of North Sea equipment
Posted: 5 March 2008
Advanced Coatings Initiative Ltd (ACI) has launched a revolutionary high performance interior coating for the oil and gas industry.
"ACI has built its reputation from producing high performance coatings for a wide range of industries, including the oil and gas sector," said Jim Davidson, managing director of ACI.
"This new technology represents a major breakthrough by having the ability to provide substantial protection to the internal surfaces and very often complex geometry’s of industrial components. InnerArmor will have a significant, positive impact on the finances of many of our existing and future clients and it highlights our commitment to bringing innovative new technology and solutions to our customer base."
The only product of its kind in Europe, InnerArmor, has the potential to more than double the life expectancy of a wide range of equipment, such as pumps, valves and drilling equipment, used globally in the oil and gas industry.
The novel coating technology has been developed after an extensive research and development programme led by ITI Energy, the Aberdeen-based new energy technology institute.
It is licensed from California-based materials science specialists, Sub-One Technology, who developed the innovative surface coating concept along with the involvement of University of the West of Scotland, formerly Paisley University.
"The support of ITI Energy, and University of the West of Scotland, enabled us to develop a truly unique, world class coating technology," said Dr. Mark J. Gore, Sub-One president in Europe.
"We are very excited to have ACI now representing the technology as the first European licensee, I am sure we will see a significant amount of new business being generated which will create further investment and employment opportunities across Scotland."
ACI is the first company in Europe to offer the InnerArmor coating technology to the market. Potential savings through increased operating life cycles, improved productivity, and decreased maintenance costs could represent several hundred million pounds of savings to the global oil and gas industry on an annual basis.
ACI has installed two coating machines in their facilities at Portlethen, Aberdeen, which represents a six figure investment for the firm and a strong commitment to the revolutionary technology.
