Yokogawa release 3.07 upgrade for CENTUM CS 3000 R3

Posted: 24 April 2006

Yokogawa is now delivering a new upgrade of its CENTUM CS 3000 R3 integrated product control system.

The CENTUM CS 3000 R3 is Yokogawa’s flagship control system offering that feature an open architecture in an optimal operating environment.

It is a flexible/reliable system that is optimized with powerful engineering functions and backward compatibility that minimizes the total cost of ownership over its long life-cycle.

Previous releases included newly designed input/output system that reduces installation footprint and is compatible with an assortment of field networks such as Foundation Fieldbus, HART, Profibus, DeviceNet and Ethernet, a new controller and a new 1 GB broadband control and information Ethernet network.

The recently released Version 3.07 includes several additional features in direct response to product enhancement requests from its Yokogawa’s user group conferences. They include:

  • Enhanced Control functions
Most all communication cards can be operated from remote I/O nodes. Profibus-DP interfaces join Foundation Fieldbus and Serial communications in being able to function in remote I/O nodes allowing more flexibility in system architectures.
  • Enhanced Operation and Monitoring functions
Numerous human machine interface enhancements including reduction in operator actions for necessary for control, and flexibility in custom assignments for trending and control.
  • Enhanced Engineering Functions
Context sensitive menus and improved operation of its builders as well as links to the builders from outside the engineering environment for real time diagnostics reference.
  • Enhanced Fieldbus functions
Improvements in its device panel implementation that improves addressability and access to Foundation Fieldbus devices and automatic acquisition of block parameters for easier commissioning directly from the control system environment. Also maintenance alarms from Yokogawa’s device maintenance and management system, PRM (Plant Resource Manager), appear as alerts for operators.
  • Enhanced system Integration
A system integration OPC client station with 100,000 tag capability that provides an effective method to integrate 3rd party OPC data from subsystems or even legacy systems.
  • Enhanced sequence of events management integrated with the system
The control and information network, Vnet/IP, of the system and controller are built with Sequence of Event capabilities. The enhancements include addition of “First-In” trigger for trip reports, support of Microsoft Sequel Server for events, duplicated event deletion features, and a user interface to SQL utility commands.
  • Enhanced migration capability
Function blocks are allowed to operate in compatible modes to its legacy systems, CENTUM V and CENTUM-XL to provide seamless migration of the controller database without translation, thus, eliminating a tremendous of engineering time to check changes in features and function in function blocks from legacy systems.

The CENTUM CS 3000 R3 is designed to handle everything from small-scale factories to the very largest of plants. Each level enterprise, business unit, operation, control, and field is fully interconnected using the latest network technologies.

Network communications are used to optimize the overall system, reduce site operations, increase automation, raise productivity, and, of course, boost profits.

The HMI enables operators to control not only the migration path from CENTUM CS3000 itself, but also older control systems such as CENTUM-XL and Micro-XL.

The CENTUM series provides a smooth migration path from earlier Yokogawa models with ability to preserve investments already made by retaining existing field wiring and I/O systems.

A complete migration path from all legacy systems to CENTUM CS3000 R3 is a mainstay of Yokogawa’s system philosophy.

The CENTUM CS 3000 R3 is the cornerstone of Yokogawa’s key deliverables in its VigilantPlant concept promising production excellence to visionary plants and creating an environment where plant personnel can See Clearly, Know in Advance, and Act with Agility.
