Venezuelan Training Center meets demand for Roxar software

Posted: 7 March 2006

Roxar reported the opening of a new training centre in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela.

The new facility is in response to increasing customer demand throughout the region for Roxar’s reservoir modeling and simulation products, including its industry-leading products IRAP RMS and Tempest. The Puerto La Cruz facility is Roxar’s first software training center in South America.

The center will provide technical support and training across Roxar’s entire software portfolio to geologists, reservoir engineers, geophysicists and drilling engineers from the region’s leading national oil companies and multinationals.

Roxar’s training philosophy, developed over 10 years in close collaboration with the petroleum industry, emphasizes the integration of separate disciplines to maximize reservoir performance.

Training programs are structured to focus on the reasons for building quality reservoir models as much as the software skills to achieve them.

The training programs, in both Spanish and English, have also been extended to incorporate new software modules - RMSfaultseal, which analyzes fault zone properties within the integrated reservoir model and FracPerm, an integrated, easy to use package enabling geologists and reservoir engineers to incorporate the effects of fractures into their mainstream 3D modeling and simulation activities, further enhancing the cross disciplined nature of the training.

Key benefits of increased training on IRAP RMS and Tempest will also include: maximized oil and gas recovery from existing fields as well as a shortening of the discovery-to-production lifecycle; a lowering of the risk in exploration with asset teams able to develop well planning and drilling strategies in locations offering the best financial return; advanced 3D modeling and simulation techniques; interoperability; and an easy-to-use interface and visualization environment.

Roxar has two Venezuelan offices - in Maracaibo and Puerto La Cruz - and has a growing customer base throughout Venezuela and South America. This includes Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), Venezuela’s national oil company; Ecopetrol (Empresa Columbiana de Petroleos), Colombia’s state oil company; Petrobras (Petroleo Brasileiro), Brazil’s state oil company; and Repsol YPF, Argentina’s leading oil company. Roxar also counts oil and gas giants, BP, Chevron and Conoco-Phillips among its clients – all of whom have major operations in South America.

“This demonstrates our commitment to being the technology solutions partner of choice - not only in South America but wherever we base ourselves,” said Roxar CEO, Sandy Esslemont.

“Our new state of the art training facility and innovative training approach will ensure that multinationals from throughout the region get the most out of our industry-leading modeling and simulation products. This includes IRAP RMS’s new engineering-focused capabilities, such as fault-seal analysis and fracture modeling techniques, which will help bridge the gap between geological and reservoir engineering workflows. The result will be maximized reservoir performance.”
