This major engineering and construction business operating within the energy sector is one of the most eminent and fastest-growing companies in its field. The company has won and delivered on a number of prominent and complex engineering projects in Africa and it continues to bid for and win new long-term contracts within the region. With a quarter of its business based in Africa, this global service company now wishes to appoint a high calibre individual to manage its operations in Angola.
A key member of the country management team, the Country Operations Manager is accountable for the day to day operations covering fabrication yards and other facilities. The individual is also responsible for managing all in–country operational support functions for the company’s projects including logistics support.
Based in the secure surroundings of Luanda, you will lead a team of around 10 people based at the various facilities overseeing a 100 strong workforce. Amongst your deliverables will be:-
- The management and championing of health, safety and security of all personnel.
- Responsibility for production, manpower and equipment planning plus management of and planning for Subcontract and 3rd party support services.
- Implementing and chairing operational review meetings.
- Manage and promote the localisation programme covering recruitment, training, development, and performance management.
- Administer project budgets.
- Develop a thorough working knowledge of the appropriate legislation of Angola including HSSE, Environmental, Immigration, Shipping and Labour. Administer all visa and work permit applications
A range of general management skills are required for this role, as well as the ability to operate very effectively across cultures. Previous experience in working internationally is essential and this will ideally include experience in the African region.
Candidates will most likely have a background in the Oil & Gas Construction Sector and Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering experience at site management or site engineering management level.
In addition to a strategic mindset the In Country Operations Manager will possess excellent customer facing skills being able to develop strong working relationships with clients and fforging excellent working relationships with subcontractors and other key business stakeholders. Highly numerate and with very good negotiation skills, you will deliver projects, on time, to quality standards and within this highly safety aware environment.
This is a demanding and highly enjoyable role, where you will have the scope and freedom to deliver, whilst at times, working in some remote and occasionally inhospitable areas. Angola is a developing country and you will need to be very resilient, lead from the front and be prepared to roll your sleeves up when required. The ability to speak Portuguese would be an added bonus. Our client is entirely flexible as to whether this is a rotational or residential arrangement.
