POWER-GEN Asia, the premier conference and exhibition for the power generation and transmission and distribution industries, will be hosting the event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with full Ministry support.

KTAK, the Ministry of Energy, Water & Communications for Malaysia, have confirmed their support to co-host POWER-GEN Asia 2008, which will be held at the state-of-the-art KLCC Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, from 21st to 23rd October 2008.

Honorable Dato’ Sri Dr Lim Keng Yaik, Minister of Energy, Water and Communications for Malaysia, said, “We are delighted that Malaysia will be co-hosting POWER-GEN Asia 2008, as it will bring immense benefits to the industry and the country, in such an important subject. We are very much looking forward to a successful and informative event.”

POWER-GEN Asia will receive over 5000 industry professionals, who will gather for 3 days to enjoy the industry’s leading conference and experience the latest developments and ideas for the future of the Asian power generation sector.

The increase in demand for electricity in Malaysia is forecast at 7.8 per cent per year to reach 20 087 MW by 2010.

The Malaysian Ministry for Energy, Water & Communications is undertaking a $10 billion investment programme, from Government and public enterprises, aiming to increase installed capacity to 25 258 MW.

In the Ninth Malaysian Plan the Ministry will continue to further enhance the sustainable development of the energy sector, through an optimal energy mix and improving the performance of the transmission system, to enable it to contribute towards strengthening economic growth.

The plan will also see the implementation of the rural electrification programme being intensified to achieve 95.1 per cent rural electrification by 2010.

Malaysia is part of the ASEAN region undergoing extraordinary growth in the demand for power and energy, with over $50 billion estimated investment required to meet current demands.

The POWER-GEN Asia conference is a key forum for senior executives and industry leaders to discuss a range of topics, from the region’s energy markets, resources and environmental challenges to power plant generation technologies and operating & servicing plants, in order to meet the challenge of the growing demand for electricity.

Companies and consultants from the power generation and transmission and distribution industries are invited to present their new developments, technologies and case studies at POWER-GEN Asia. More information on how to become a conference speaker can be obtained through the event website www.powergenasia.com.
