Russian Oil and Gas 2006 Conference and Exhibition
Technology & Engineering to the fore at Russian showcase
The need to focus on new engineering aspects emerging from both within Russia as well as the global E&P industry is a key factor driving a new Russian oil and gas technology showcase to be held later this year.
Driven by a select grouping of leading industry figures, the 2006 SPE Russian Oil and Gas Technical Conference and Exhibition (RO&G06) in Moscow will be distinguished by its focus purely on technology and engineering issues.
The event is already shaping up to be the most innovative of its kind in the region, being one that is driven by some of the upstream industry’s most well-known faces in Russia.
This includes Professor Valery (Isaakovich) Graifer, Chairman of the Board of Directors JSC Lukoil, and General Director of JSC RITEK OJSC Lukoil, who is the Conference General Chairman.
Prof Graifer plays a key role in supporting technology development and innovation, educating young people and maintaining strong ties between the industry and academia.
Organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers and its partner Spearhead Exhibitions – who jointly organise the eastern hemisphere’s largest oil and gas conference and exhibition, Offshore Europe – the event will be a major gathering of both Russian and international players.
Companies represented on the executive committee include RITEK, ExxonMobil Russia, Wintershall AG, TNK-BP, Chevron, Sibneft, Slavneft, ConocoPhillips, Degolyer and Macnaughton, Moscow State University, Surgutneftegas, Shell, Tatneft, Total, Rosneft, Gazprom, PetroAlliance, Halliburton and Schlumberger, while other supporting companies at the event include OMV, Roxar, Baker Hughes, Weatherford, MI Swaco, Vetco, TMK, Expro Group, 3M and Paradigm with others to be announced soon.
World Class Resources and the World of Technology
The conference theme is ‘The World of Technology for World Class Resources’. According to Iskander Diyashev, Technical Conference Programme Chairman for RO&G06 and Chief Engineer of Sibneft, this will highlight both the vast natural resources within Russia and the history of the significant technical innovations and solutions created within the country for the industry.
The conference programme itself will include three plenary sessions and daily technical sessions run in parallel.
Topics will cover all the major technical disciplines, including HSE, and in particular will feature key subjects such as activities in Western Siberia and the Arctic Offshore, ensuring a strong balance between emerging technologies, production enhancement and known reserves.
The first plenary session will cover The Role of Russia in the World’s Energy Balance and be chaired by Professor Graifer, while the second will be titled Case Studies of Unique Fields and focus on the process of development of unique and giant fields around the world.
The third plenary session will focus on Academia Debates, and will feature leading technical minds from around the world to discuss technologies that have emerged from disciplines including the reservoir, production and drilling sectors, and how they have been approached.
The conference, to be held from 3-6 October at the Crocus Expo venue in Moscow, will be conducted using simultaneous translation and CD Roms of all papers will be produced for the delegates in both Russian and English, further enhancing the event’s role in enabling technology transfer.
The exhibition, meanwhile, will give delegates the opportunity to see the latest technological solutions and achievements being utilized.
