Torrens Energy starts hot rock drilling
Posted: 24 October 2007
Torrens Energy Limited reported its first Hot Rock exploration drilling program has been mobilised 180km north of Port Augusta, South Australia.
Underdale Drillers will commence at the company's Torrens Project Area with an initial nine-hole exploration drilling program covering 2,000km2 of highly prospective, geothermally anomalous geology.
Recent temperature modelling completed in the area, utilising old petroleum well data shows temperatures at 5,000m of approximately 230°C, well within the range required for commercial power generation (see ASX Announcement from 30/4/07).
The drilling program marks the start of an innovative Hot Rock exploration program that aims to produce a three dimensional geothermal map of the Company’s highly prospective ground in South Australia.
Torrens Energy will use temperature data from exploration drilling to develop an innovative, three-dimensional temperature field model (3D-TFM) across the company’s highly prospective Geothermal Exploration Licence (GEL) package.
This activity is being supported by $3m in grant funding from the Australian Federal Government’s Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI).
This forward-thinking grant scheme saw Torrens Energy awarded the matching funds last month (see ASX Announcement from 27/8/07).
