Buchan Technical Services secure Canadian contract
Posted: 21 June 2006
Buchan Technical Services Ltd (BTS) have secured their first rental contract from Canada with a heavyweight order from a major oil and gas service provider.
To meet a tight operational deadline, BTS air freighted two 14.5 ton Caterpillar pumps from Prestwick Airport near Glasgow instead of transporting by sea.
Aberdeenshire-based BTS, which has built up a reputation for providing niche equipment and recruitment solutions to the oil and gas industry, were chosen by the Canadian client because they were able to satisfy their requirements ahead of North American based hire companies.
The two centrifugal pumps were transported to Newfoundland via an Antonov air freighter within 48 hours of receiving the order.
BTS managing director, Andy Buchan, said: “Our client is based in Canada and had an urgent requirement for two 600 horse power centrifugal pumping units for a chemical cleaning workscope.
“The equipment design criteria was very specific and we were able to meet that criteria ahead of anything that was available in North America, turning our equipment around over a weekend.
“This is the largest consignment we have air-freighted to date and we are very pleased to have entered the Canadian market in such a spectacular fashion."
"Many of the areas we work in are niche markets and through this our overseas recognition is increasing all the time. We have air-freighted smaller pumps and reels on a number of occasions, but this shipment demonstrates our capabilities in being able to meet the demands of international clients working to extremely tight deadlines.”
