IBN RUSHD conversion project underway

SABIC affiliate, Arabian Industrial Fibers Company (IBN RUSHD) signed Thursday, April 27, 2006, a Letter of Intent (LOI) with EPC Engineering & Consulting GmbH for the preparation of basic design package and performance of other related engineering services for the IBN RUSHD PET conversion and de-bottlenecking project at the IBN RUSHD complex, in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
Eng. Awadh M. Al-Maker, President IBN RUSHD, signed the LOI for IBN RUSHD. Mr. Michael Streng, Managing Director – EPC Engineering & Consulting GmbH signed the LOI on behalf of EPC Engineering & Consulting GmbH.
Eng. Awadh M. Al-Maker, President IBN RUSHD said, “This project is expected to go on-stream by Q3 2007, with an annual capacity exceeding 300K metric tons of Bottle Grade Chips. This includes conversion of all polymer lines to produce Bottle Grade Chips.
This annual capacity increase/conversion will further enhance SABIC's position among PET producers and strengthen its competitive and leading capabilities in the regional marketplace.”
He further pointed out that the conversion project will require installing two new Solid State Polymerization units in order to produce Bottle Grade Chips from the de-bottlenecked polymer lines.
