PSL Energy Services secure contract on AMEC Tweedsmuir project

Posted: 27 April 2006

PSL Energy Services Ltd has secured a contract from AMEC Group Ltd to carry out joint integrity management for the Tweedsmuir development project.

The Aberdeen-based oil and gas services specialist will perform hydrotesting, leak testing and flushing services over an 18 month period on board the Piper B platform which is owned by Talisman Energy (UK) Limited.

AMEC was commissioned last March to carry out a substantial modification programme on Piper B to allow it to receive oil and gas from Talisman’s new Tweedsmuir field in the central North Sea.

The PSL contract, which could be worth up to £1 million, involves tie-ins, modification and construction. A major shutdown planned for May will see the majority of tie-ins completed with multiple pipe work installation scopes following throughout the contract period.

A key aspect of this project is PSL’s integrated approach which uses multi-skilled personnel who can undertake bolting as well as leak testing services. Working closely with AMEC and Talisman Energy’s Tweedsmuir project team, PSL technicians will ensure that all new pipe work is correctly assembled, tightened and tested to confirm integrity.

PSL’s managing director, Doug Duguid, said: “Our policy of offering an integrated solution, in which multi-skilled staff are capable of performing a range of services, is proving an attractive proposition for many clients.

“This provides substantial cost and time savings and allows much better co-ordination and communication with the client and other contractors.

“We have a very good relationship with AMEC in Baku and are delighted to extend this association to the North Sea.”
