Technip wins Ecopetrol contract

Posted: 7 December 2006

Ecopetrol, Colombia’s State oil company, has awarded Technip a project management consulting (PMC) contract worth approximately $50 million for the expansion of its refinery in Barrancabermeja, Colombia.

The contract, on a unit rates and reimbursable basis, covers front end design, detailed engineering and procurement services for the process units, as well as supervision of contractors’ activities for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC).

Technip’s operations and engineering centers in Rome (Italy) and Bogotà (Colombia) will execute the contract.

The project includes:

  • a 19,000 barrels per stream day (BPSD) gasoline hydrodesulphurization unit and a 57,000 BPSD diesel hydrodesulphurization unit (both based on Axens technology),
  • a 19,000 million standard cubic feet per day hydrogen production unit (Technip KTI technology),
  • a 55 tons/day sulphur recovery unit,
  • a 110 tons/day tail gas treatment unit,
  • a 500 gallons per minute (GPM) sour water stripper,
  • a 30 GPM diesel/gasoline amine regeneration unit.

This expansion will enable the Barrancabermeja refinery to produce gasoline and diesel in compliance with international environmental regulations regarding sulphur content reduction.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the 4th quarter 2009.

This award confirms the continued successful collaboration between Ecopetrol and Technip for the implementation of many major projects.
