Foster Wheeler secures contract from Total's UK refinery at Milford Haven

Posted: 23 December 2004

Foster Wheeler UK subsidiary, Foster Wheeler Energy Limited has been awarded a contract by Total UK Limited for detailed engineering, procurement services and construction management support to debottleneck and improve the energy efficiency of Total's refinery at Milford Haven, Wales, United Kingdom.

The terms of the contract were not disclosed. The project was included in third-quarter bookings.

"We are delighted to continue with our involvement in this revamp project, following our recent successful completion of the front-end engineering and design work," said Steve Davies, chairman and chief executive officer of Foster Wheeler Energy Limited. "This is a very important project for Total and its partner, Murco, at Milford Haven, and it is with great satisfaction that Total has given Foster Wheeler the opportunity to bring its skills and expertise to this project."

The scope of work to be executed by Foster Wheeler for Total and Murco will be to debottleneck both the crude distillation unit and fluid catalytic cracking unit vapor recovery sections to alleviate current constraints in processing capacity and to improve the energy efficiency of the hydrodesulfurization unit. Foster Wheeler will work to a very tight timetable to complete all critical engineering and procurement work ahead of the refinery's forthcoming turnaround and inspection shutdown, scheduled for the second quarter of 2005.

"We are delighted to be working with Foster Wheeler on these exciting and important projects for the refinery," said a spokesman from Total. "Both projects clearly demonstrate the commitment of Total and Murco to the refinery and its long-term sustainable operation and, in particular, the commitment of both partners to improving the refinery's energy efficiency."
