Petrosea US$11 Million 12 Month Coal Mining Contract

Posted: 21 December 2004

PT Petrosea Tbk successfully negotiated and signed an US$11 million, 12 month contract to mine both coal and overburden for PT Bukit Baiduri Energi at their coal concession area adjacent to Samarinda in east Kalimantan.

Petrosea has had a long history at the site and first commenced mining on the concession in 1995, but demobilised from the site over two years ago in 2002.

The new work centres around the enlarging of an older previously worked pit in close proximity to the processing facilities on the Mahakam River and will involve all activities required to recover and deliver to stockpile approximately 650,000 tonnes of coal in a 12 month period commencing immediately.

This mining work will be undertaken primarily with plant already available within the existing Petrosea plant fleet although Petrosea will also purchase some new plant and equipment to upgrade its current fleet in line with its long term mining strategic plan.
